Message from the President

Friday, 1 August 2025

Dear Members,

Thank you for your continued support as we navigate one of the most challenging periods our club has faced in recent years. The exceptional rainfall and resulting course conditions have forced us to make significant changes to how we operate, and we’re incredibly grateful for the patience and understanding shown by the majority of our membership.

Our team has worked hard to keep golf going at the NBGC. The introduction of the Banksia Course, a temporary 18-hole layout, has enabled us to continue hosting competitions and social rounds while preserving the integrity of the course. This wouldn’t have been possible without the extraordinary efforts of our course staff, golf operations team, and General Manager David Lulham. Their work in securing Golf NSW approval, updating MiScore, and preparing the course for play has been nothing short of impressive.

We also want to acknowledge recent feedback about the communication surrounding booking changes, and for the inconvenience caused to members at yesterday's Members Card Draw for bookings next weekend. We recognise this could have been handled better, and we take your feedback on board. Commencing next week, a weekly update will be emailed to members providing an update on the course and its conditions, along with any alterations that are made to our normal tee sheet operations. We apologise for the inconvenience caused yesterday.

Looking ahead, further changes to tee sheets, competitions and our major events will continue to occur. We ask all members to remain flexible with tee times and to consider playing on days other than their normal preferred day of play. This will help us accommodate as many members as possible across the limited number of holes currently in play.

To support our members during this time, we have paused accepting any further visitor and group bookings between now and the end of September. Until conditions improve, all available tee times will be reserved exclusively for members. Existing social and group golf commitments will continue to be managed and converted where possible.

We’re also working to understand the longer-term impact of this situation. David has engaged our insurance broker to explore avenues for claims, though the full financial implications are still being assessed and will not be realised for several months. The flooding of the golf course will have a negative impact on the Club's financial situation. We will continue to communicate this as information becomes available.

If you have concerns or suggestions, please direct them to David Lulham, Duard Nel, myself, or another Board member—preferably in writing. We ask that members do not direct frustrations toward our Golf Shop staff or front-line staff, who are working under significant pressure to manage bookings, field calls, and keep daily operations running smoothly.

Finally, I want to thank those members who’ve reached out with positive feedback. Your messages of support have meant a great deal to the team.

We’re confident that the course and our golfing community will recover in time, and that, together, we’ll get through this. For now, we appreciate your continued patience and understanding as we all adapt to some difficult challenges ahead.

Warm regards,

Peter Fagan
