Course Update

Thursday 23 October 2025

Course update

As the warm weather continues, we are now seeing most areas of the course drying out. This week, our focus is to open the 7th hole to its full length and continue removing and reducing roped-off areas. Golfers will see changes to the roped areas on the 13th, 23rd, 24th & 26th holes. In these areas, we are now able to commence accessing with mowers and machinery, which will also be a noticeable improvement.

Bare Areas

Whilst we are drying out, there are still several bare areas of the fairway that will take some time to recover. Many of these areas have now been oversewn with a Kykuyu and rye grass blend and in smaller areas re-turfed. It will take several weeks for these areas to show signs of growth and be ready for access. Disappointingly, we have had several reports of members with privately owned carts avoiding signs or ropes and, at times, driving through these areas. We strongly ask members with their own private golf cart to follow signage and drive where directed to. This will only help our golf course recover quicker.

Dead Tree Removal

Last week, we had our arborist contractors onsite chipping and removing several large fallen trees around the 12th tee area. There are still a number of large tree trunks that lie on the ground. These will be removed by our Greens Staff when time permits. Unfortunately we are also noticing trees dying of which we believe is a result of having wet roots for an extended period, when time permits these trees will be pruned or removed.

GA Connect Update

Competition scores, 28 Sep-6 Oct.

Some members would have experienced discrepancies with score uploads. We now have confirmation from Golf Australia and Miclub that any competition rounds played during the transition period, 28 Sep-6 Oct, will remain unverified and not included in the handicap calculations.

 Score Upload

In the new Golf Australia CONNECT system, when a player submits a competition score through MiClub —whether via the MiScore App, a scanned scorecard, Kiosk entry, or administrator input—the score will appear in Golf Australia CONNECT as an unprocessed score record, visible to members. These scores will not contribute to handicap calculations until they are approved by the club. Based on the difficulty level of the course on the day and the overall results from the field, the confirmed handicapped score might be different to the uploaded score earlier in the day.

Men’s Scratch Matchplay Update

In the B Grade event, on Saturday, 18 October, Ross Lalor beat Steve Barnett in the finals 4 and 3. Congratulations Ross.

Junior member Sunday Clinic & Golf

It is wonderful to see the interest in junior golf; our junior membership continues to grow. There are several young golfers who are keen to play on-course.  As of Sunday, 2 November, our coaching team will offer Clinic & Golf to our junior members. These events are aimed at junior members transitioning to on-course play, learning rules and etiquette, obtaining a handicap, and participating in junior competition golf. Sunday

Junior Clinic & Golf will be offered during the school term, with a 3pm - 4pm clinic, followed by an optional on-course play (parents' assistance required for younger juniors). 6 holes for younger juniors or 9 holes of competition golf ($5 comp fee applies). A ladder record will be held, and quarterly prizes will be allocated to winning boys and girls.

For any questions in this regard, please get in touch with Duard golf@nelsonbaygolf.com.au. Junior members can register here.
