NSW Senior Amateur – 4th & 5th March
Plans are well underway for the NSW Senior Amateur, which will be jointly held at Pacific Dunes and Nelson Bay Golf Clubs. This event will attract some of the country's best amateur golfers, with 260 competing in the tournament. A reminder to any male and female members who would like to play in this event that registrations can be made through Golf NSW here.
NSW Senior Amateur – Limited Tee Times
Members' tee times for Tuesday and Wednesday will be slightly restricted. Fortunately, a number of local Clubs have offered tee times at reduced prices, ensuring members can still organise their weekly games. These courses include Cypress Lakes, Belmont GC, Waratah GC, Hawksnest GC, Charlestown GC, and Merewether GC. Booking details and Green Fee prices will be available in the coming weeks.
4th & 9th Tee Construction This week, the construction of our 4th and 9th Tees will commence. The 4th tee will see the men's and ladies' tee combine with a much larger playing surface, and the cart path re-routed to the left side of the fairway. The bunker at the rear of the 3rd green will also be filled in and become part of the green surround. On the 9th tee, the men's tee will also have its surface area increased, providing more tee placement options. Both tees will then be re-turfed, and we expect to open them in April. Temporary tees will be in place during this period.
Fungus on Greens Our greens have been suffering extreme disease pressure over the past few weeks; unusually high overnight temperatures with high humidity have been the main cause of disease outbreaks. Samples collected from the 2nd green highlighted this as a form of ERI disease. Curvalaria was the main pathogen present and was responsible for its unsightly appearance. This fungus is very aggressive and can take over an entire green in 3-5 days. Several fungicides have been applied to control the outbreak, which we believe has now been suppressed with a slow recovery apparent. Members interested in reading up on ERI can find some information here The two images below show when this was first identified, and the second shows signs of improvement. |
